Quantum & Cyber / Air-Space Quantum Systems
The quantum section’s most durable thread, precision timing, trusted relay, resilient links, extends naturally to space. DERECHO studies that extension through the developmental ASTERISM architecture.
Research thread · Nothing on orbit
Continuity
The same visual and engineering language runs through the DERECHO portfolio: field lines become orbital arcs, relay pulses become timing pulses, the airborne sensor becomes a space node. One architecture, extended, not a second company bolted on.
Research Threads
Space is where atomic clocks have already earned their place: navigation constellations run on them, and deep-space missions have demonstrated ion clocks holding nanosecond-class time over weeks. Timing continuity between orbital and airborne tiers is the most concrete thread in this section.
Orbital gravity measurement is an established science with active research toward quantum gravity gradiometry. DERECHO tracks these as context for the sensing architecture, not as programs DERECHO conducts.
Optical links between space, air, and ground, and research toward carrying quantum states over them, define the long-horizon communications frontier. Government programs have demonstrated laser relay and are working toward space-to-ground quantum experiments.
Beyond Earth orbit, timekeeping and relay become mission-limiting: light-time delay rules out ground-in-the-loop control. The ASTERISM architecture treats on-board governance and preserved custody as the design answer, with timing as its backbone.
References to demonstrated space capabilities describe government and scientific programs, not DERECHO systems, and imply no affiliation or endorsement.
The Architecture
ASTERISM is DERECHO’s developmental extended-network architecture, governance designed to live on board through contact loss. In the quantum thread, it is studied as the tier that could carry timing continuity to airborne platforms, relay quantum-derived measurements across gaps, and extend the same crypto-agile trust architecture beyond the air layer.
Where a real deployment relationship exists, the FARSIDE rocket-hardware program and the Space & Cislunar concept thread describe it. This page adds no new deployment claim: timing and relay experiments in space are a roadmap stage, not a capability.
Limitations
No DERECHO article has flown. There is no quantum satellite, no QKD service, no entanglement distribution, no operational quantum relay, no lunar quantum network, no flight hardware, and no space-qualified sensor in this architecture, and this page claims none. What exists is a developmental architecture, a research thread, and a deliberate refusal to say more than the evidence supports.
Research and integration architecture. No quantum payload has been integrated or flown; descriptions on this page are design intent for systems in development. Quantum sensing, quantum communications, quantum key distribution, quantum computing, and post-quantum cryptography are distinct disciplines. DERECHO's work in this area is research and integration architecture for systems in development; descriptions reflect design intent, and no quantum capability, performance, certification, or compliance is claimed.
