Extended Network Architecture
Spacecraft today are governed from the ground. When the link degrades, or when two thousand kilometers of Moon block it entirely, most systems wait.
ASTERISM is designed to move network governance on board: nodes intended to reassign roles, arbitrate resources, and preserve custody of data autonomously through contact gaps, then reconcile when contact returns. When no path exists, data is designed to be held under custody and forwarded the moment a link opens.
It extends the FORGEMESH governance architecture DERECHO is developing at the tactical edge, one design language from the squad to the far side.
Development status: software architecture in development. No ASTERISM article has flown; no on-orbit demonstration has been conducted.

Focus
On the far side of the Moon there is no line of sight to Earth. DERECHO is developing extended-network concepts for moving trusted data out of occluded volumes where a direct link cannot exist.
